They can heal or harm, lift up or crush. Proverbs 15 offers a masterclass on the power of speech, the blessing of discipline, and the joy of a heart aligned with God.

This chapter reminds us that a gentle word can disarm anger, and a wise response can restore peace. In a world where sharp words and quick tempers dominate, God's wisdom teaches us a better way—the way of grace, humility, and life-giving conversation.

Let’s reflect on the wisdom God offers today.

The Text

📖 Proverbs 15:1-4, EXB
1 A gentle answer will calm a person’s anger, but an unkind answer will cause more anger.
2 Wise people use knowledge when they speak, but fools pour out foolishness.
3 The Lord’s eyes see everything; he watches both evil and good people.
4 As a tree gives fruit, healing words give life, but dishonest words crush the spirit.

📖 Proverbs 15:8-9, AMPC
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination, hateful and exceedingly offensive to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is His delight!
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but He loves him who pursues righteousness [moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation].

📖 Proverbs 15:31-33, EXB
31 ·If you listen to correction to improve your life [or Those who listen to life-giving correction], you will live [or dwell] among the wise.
32 If you ·reject [ignore] correction, you only harm yourself; but if you listen to ·correction [reproof], you grow in understanding.
33 ·Respect [Fear] for the Lord will teach you wisdom; if you want to be honoured, you must be humble [or humility comes before honour].

Some Thoughts

Gentle words are powerful – They don't just avoid conflict; they invite peace. God calls us to use our speech to heal, encourage, and restore.

Prayer delights God – While outward rituals may impress people, what God truly delights in is the heartfelt prayer of the righteous.

Correction leads to growth – Humility is the gateway to wisdom. At every turn, this chapter reminds us that wisdom is not merely about what we know but about how we live, who we listen to, and the direction we choose to walk in daily.

This proverb contains life principles: choosing wise friends, managing your mouth, stewarding your resources, and embracing correction. Each verse calls us to a life of intentionality rooted in righteousness.

Let’s dive in.

The Text

📖 Proverbs 13:1-3, EXB
1 A wise son listens to his father’s ·instruction [discipline], but a ·mocker [scoffer] does not listen to correction.
2 People ·will be rewarded for what they say [eat from the fruit of their mouth], but those who ·can’t be trusted [act treacherously] want only violence.
3 Those who ·are careful about what they say [guard their mouth] protect their lives, but whoever ·speaks without thinking [opens wide their lips] will be ruined.

📖 Proverbs 13:20-21, AMPC
20 He who walks with wise men is wise, but a companion of [conceited, self-confident] fools is a fool himself and shall smart for it.
21 Evil pursues sinners, but the consistently upright and in right standing with God is recompensed with good.

These verses reflect the key messages of the chapter: choose your circle wisely, guard your words, and be teachable.

Some Thoughts

Choose your companions wisely – Our friendships shape our futures. Walk with the wise, and you will grow in wisdom. Surround yourself with scoffers, and you’ll inherit their pain.

Words can protect or destroy – What we say has weight. Careless speech can lead to ruin, but guarded words preserve life.

Discipline leads to fulfilment – Proverbs 13 shows that the diligent and the teachable enjoy the fruit of their labour and learning, while laziness and rebellion lead to want.

A Few Questions To Ponder

Here’s what to reflect on today:

Who am I allowing to influence me most right now—are they walking in God’s wisdom?

Do I guard my speech or speak impulsively?

Am I pursuing discipline and diligence, or making excuses for delay and inaction?

Walking with the wise isn’t just about having wise friends—it’s about adopting their ways and valuing their input.

Conclusion

Every day, we get to choose: Will we walk with the wise or the foolish? Will we guard our words or speak without restraint? Will we embrace discipline or resist it? Proverbs 13 invites us to take the path of wisdom—one that leads to protection, prosperity, and peace.

Today’s challenge: Evaluate your current influences and habits. Do they reflect the wisdom of someone walking with Christ?

Discipline is not punishment—God’s way of shaping us into people of character, wisdom, and truth.

Conclusion

Proverbs 12 teaches us that the path to wisdom isn’t found in always being right but in always being ready to grow. When we embrace discipline, speak with integrity, and work with diligence, we reflect the nature of our wise and loving Father.

Today’s challenge: Be open to correction, whether from God’s Word, a trusted friend, or a life circumstance. Wisdom speaks life.

A Few Questions To Ponder

Here are some prompts to help you pause and reflect:

In what ways are my daily choices bringing joy—or grief—to others?

Is my speech a source of encouragement and life?

What does it look like for me to walk in righteousness this week?

Wisdom is not just knowing the right thing; it is doing it in love, humility, and trust in God.

Conclusion

Proverbs 10 calls us to live wisely, speak life, and act righteously. These are not lofty ideals—they’re daily invitations from our loving Father to walk closely with Him. Each choice matters. Each word has power. Each step on the path of righteousness leads to joy, favour, and peace.

Today’s challenge: Choose one verse from Proverbs 10 that stands out to you. At the same time, Folly sits in her own house, shouting seductive lies to the simple and the distracted. Both are calling out. As we wrap up the workweek, let’s take a moment to reflect on something that matters far more than any pay-check, business deal, or financial success.

The world constantly tells us that wealth is the ultimate prize—accumulate more, earn more, and you’ll be set for life. But today, Solomon challenges that thinking by presenting a far more excellent investment: wisdom.

Suppose this is your first time reading the #DailyFollower newsletter, welcome! It enriches every aspect of life, including relationships, decision-making, and how we handle our resources.

Wisdom brings lasting profit. While financial success can bring temporary comfort, wisdom offers something better: peace, purpose, and the ability to make sound choices that shape our future.

Godly wisdom surpasses material wealth. The world measures success by what we accumulate, but Solomon reminds us that true wealth is found in understanding and living according to God’s truth.

A Few Questions To Ponder

Take a moment to reflect on where you’re placing your priorities. Consider these questions:

What am I investing the most time and effort into—temporary wealth or lasting wisdom?

How has wisdom (or the lack of it) shaped the outcomes in my life so far?

In what areas of my life do I need to seek God’s wisdom more intentionally?

Please let these questions guide your reflections as you evaluate your pursuit. Take some time today to meditate on your priorities and how they’ve impacted your journey through life so far.

Conclusion

Solomon’s wisdom challenges us to rethink our definition of profit. While silver and gold have value, wisdom is far more remarkable because it equips us to live well, make sound choices, and walk in alignment with God’s purpose.

Today’s challenge: Shift your investment strategy.

Instead of chasing only material gain, commit to seeking wisdom daily. Spend time in God’s Word, invite His wisdom into your decision-making, and watch how it enriches every part of your life.

Yours faithfully,
John, a #DailyFollower.

Thanks for reading The Daily Follower!
