Dear #DailyFollower,
Introduction
14 Days ago, I started writing and publishing a daily newsletter - The Daily Follower.
It’s a newsletter that shares thoughts from the Scriptures to encourage believers to be more than professing Christians and move on to becoming partners with Christ in executing God’s agenda in our days.
I started this newsletter to build a community of daily followers for the following reasons:
#1: The Gideon Burden
Judges 6:13, EXB
Then Gideon said, “·Sir [My lord], if the Lord is with us, why ·are we having so much trouble [has all this happened to us]? Where are the ·miracles [wonderful deeds] our ancestors told us about? They said, “Didn’t the Lord bring us out of Egypt? But now the Lord has ·left [abandoned] us and has ·handed us over to the Midianites [given us into the hand of Midian].”
Considering the state of play in our world today, I find myself thinking like Gideon, in his hidden threshing floor, asking God, “Where are the wonders of Christ that I have read so much about in the Scriptures and Contemporary Church History?”
I ask because even with over 2.6 billion professing Christians, our world continues to plunge into greater darkness with every passing year. While these are part of the signs of the end times, I believe the impact of the current professing followers of Christ isn’t being felt.
As I meditated on this burden, I felt God speaking to my heart, saying, “Mighty Man of Valour, go in this thy might.”
One thing I chose to do differently from Gideon is to GO without asking too many questions! I am starting to do as my God commands, even when I don’t have the complete picture.
#2: The Other Disciples Mandate
Luke 10:1, EXB
After this, the Lord ·chose [appointed] ·seventy-two [the number may reflect the 70 nations listed in the “table of nations” in Genesis 10 (the Greek text of which reads “72”), and so foreshadows the mission to the Gentiles] others and sent them out in pairs ahead of him into every town and place where he ·planned [was about] to go.
For a very long time, in reading this verse, I thought Jesus was sending His 12 disciples + 60 other (or 58 other, depending on which version you read) disciples into the harvest field.
Towards the end of last year, in studying Luke 9 and 10, I saw 72 disciples, other than the 12 apostles, were sent into the harvest field to win souls for the masters.
I felt God speaking to my heart that for too long, working in God’s harvest field has been exclusively left to men and women operating in four- or five-fold (depending on how God’s Spirit explains Ephesians 4:11) ministry. God was calling His other saints (the ones who don’t feel a calling into the four- or five-fold ministry) to be His witnesses in His harvest field, just as Christ chose and sent out these other disciples into God’s harvest field.
Christ calls everyday believers, especially those in the marketplace, to partner with Him in what His Father is doing and blessing our world.
This mandate is crucial because many of the 8 billion people alive today have yet to come to know the saving grace of our Lord and Saviour. We are in the last days.
Christ needs more workers in God’s harvest field, and he is counting on you and me to join His apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers in the harvest field as His witnesses.
#3: The Action-Biased Season
It’s our GO season!
Mark 16:15, EXB
Jesus said to them, “Go everywhere in the world, and ·tell [preach; proclaim] the ·Good News [Gospel] to ·everyone [all creation].
Christ calls us all to go everywhere in the world to witness His Good News to all creation.
It’s action time, and God seeks to invest in us so we can become effective witnesses who can say like John in 1 John 1:1-2, EXB:
1 We ·write [announce/proclaim to] you now about what ·has always existed [was from the beginning; Gen. 1:1; John 1:1], which we have heard, [which] we have seen with our own eyes, [which] we have looked at, and we have touched with our hands. We ·write [announce/proclaim] to you about the ·Word that gives life [Word of life; associating the logos or “word” with Jesus suggests he is God’s communication with humanity; John 1:4; 11:25; 14:6]. 2 ·He who gives life [The life] ·was shown [appeared; was revealed] to us. We saw him and can ·give proof about [testify/witness to] it. And now we ·announce [proclaim; declare] to you ·that he has life that continues forever [the eternal life]. He was with ·God the Father [the Father] and ·was shown [appeared; was revealed] to us.
In this action-biased season, daily followers stay with God until they hear, see, look at, and touch what God has in store for the season so we can show it to the world around us.
Conclusion
We are on a mission to be:
The Gideons that champion the current move of God in our world.
The other disciples who partner with God in the things He is doing and blessing in our world.
The ones that GO everywhere teaching all creation about the Good News and wonders of our God.
Remember that to hear, see, look at and touch what God has in store for this season, we must tarry in His Word and Prayer. Here are resources I’m engaging in this season as I tarry:
