Dear #DailyFollower,
Introduction
I trust you’re keeping well, finding joy, and living purposefully in each new day 2025 brings.
After 30 days of writing to you daily, writing this newsletter has become one of the highlights of my day.
I knew yesterday during my devotion that I would be writing about the power of daily today because of something I read in Judges 16:16, KJV (I’ll share more below), but I didn’t take note of how many newsletters I’d published since I started writing the #DailyFollowers letters.
As I sat down to write today, thinking of what to say after my opening greeting, I remembered how much I looked forward to writing to you.
Immediately, the line you now see as the second line of this letter popped into my head, but I needed to check the logs to see how many days I’ve written to you so far.
Seeing the number surprised me because I didn’t know I’d completed 30 consecutive days. I stayed true to my commitment to doing it daily.
The past 30 days have been a journey of consistently yielding to the Holy Spirit (my co-author) and asking Him ‘what’s on His mind?’ that would bless or encourage one person who might read this letter in their journey as daily followers. I know there aren’t any guarantees that anyone is reading, let alone one person reading consistently.
However, I have chosen to partner with the Holy Spirit so He can use my mind, the little words I know, and this newsletter to express Himself to just one person who needs a word from God.
I believe it’s no coincidence that the 31st newsletter is about the power of daily.
I didn’t pre-plan or schedule the topic; it happened only because the Holy Spirit orchestrated it.
Before I dive into the power of daily, I want to sincerely appreciate everyone (subscribers and non-subscribers) who’s contributed to viewing/reading these letters 638 times in the last 30 days. I say a big thank you to you for taking the time to explore the mind of the Spirit with me.
I truly appreciate you!
Now, to the subject of the day.
A Backstory
Before going on to the power of daily, I must share a back story.
In 2019, on my birthday, I asked God to make of me what He desired because, just like Christ, I want to be in His hand a yielded vessel through which He blessed the world around me.
Five years down the line, I’m coming to understand how dangerous that prayer was.
It was dangerous because some of the occurrences in my life haven’t been the kind that you would be too excited about, as they brought so much pain, suffering, and, in a few cases, hardships that I would have loved to avoid.
However, over the last five years, I can also say I now truly understand what Paul meant when speaking about light afflictions (or small troubles) helped daily followers to access or produce an eternal weight of glory in 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, EXB:
17 ·We have small troubles for a while now, but they [For our brief and insignificant trials/tribulations] are ·helping us gain [or producing in us] an eternal ·glory [burden/weight of glory] that ·is much greater than [overwhelmingly exceeds] the troubles. 18 We set our eyes not on what we see but on what we cannot see. [For; Because] What we see ·will last only a short time [is temporary/transitory], but what we cannot see ·will last forever [is eternal].
The past five years have forged me into a daily follower that I believe God can always count on as a partner in executing His divine agenda in my days. I will share more about my journey at some point, but that’s not the purpose of today’s letter.
God answered my 2019 prayer, and it’s only in my reflections that I now know when the answer started manifesting.
It started with an insatiable longing for God’s Word. At the beginning of 2020, I committed never letting one day pass without intentionally engaging with it. I struggled with the daily part of that commitment for over one year, but I stayed consistent in engaging the word multiple times a week, every week in 2020.
Then, in 2021, I stumbled on a book called Atomic Habits by James Clear; I can’t recall how it came to my radar (I’ve tried, but I can’t remember), but I’m thankful it did.
It’s a book I recommend that every daily follower should read and re-read.
This book taught me what was missing. I had a goal, but I didn’t have a system to enable me to achieve my goal.
I devised my system by April 26, 2021. In the 1,368 days since then, I have only missed intentionally engaging God’s Word for one day.
Fifty-six days into building my spiritual health, from the Word of God, I saw God also wanted me to be more intentional about my physical health (something my wife had repeatedly told me to get serious about).
So, once more, I devised my system for my physical health and started executing on June 21, 2021. In the 1,312 days since then, I’ve missed only five days of intentional physical exercise.
I shared all of this to show that when writing about the power of daily, I have a practical understanding of the potential of (and resultant results that come from) engaging defined practices daily.
Now, to the subject, I will only share the verse in Judges that planted the seed for this letter and a few words to conclude the first of two posts about the power of daily.
I have to break it because I have a commitment that each newsletter will not take more than 7 minutes to read.
Now, to the power of daily.
The Power of Daily
In Judges 16:16, KJV, the Scripture says of Delilah:
16 And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him so that his soul was vexed unto death;
By exerting the power of daily, Delilah brought the soul of Samson to a place where thousands of fighting men couldn’t.
There is immense power in taking action daily on anything. These daily actions shape who we become.
Conclusion
Who we’re becoming as daily followers is always at the centre of the heart of the Holy Spirit, as He knows that when we pay attention to who we’re becoming, we start the journey of becoming more like Him in character and expression.
That’s why, in this letter, marking the beginning of another 30-day cycle, the Holy Spirit sought to bring this perspective to one daily follower so that this follower could work with Him to build a system that enables intentional fellowship with Him.
I will bring you more about the power of daily in the final part of this letter tomorrow.
Once again, thank you to everyone who has read one or all of my newsletters since the first one was published on December 24, 2024, and thank you for reading this letter today if this is your first. I hope you all check in again tomorrow to read the final part of this letter.
Yours faithfully,
John, a #DailyFollower.
