Dear #DailyFollower,
Introduction
Proverbs 9 paints a vivid picture: two houses, two invitations, two meals—and ultimately, two destinies.
Wisdom has built her house and prepared a banquet for those ready to live. At the same time, Folly sits in her own house, shouting seductive lies to the simple and the distracted. Both are calling out. The question is: Whose invitation are you accepting?
Let’s take a look at what’s on offer today.
The Text
📖 Proverbs 9:1–6, 13–18 (EXB selections)
1 Wisdom has built her house and made it strong with seven columns.
2 She has prepared her food, mixed her wine, and set her table.
3 She has sent out her servant girls; she calls out from the highest place in the city,
4 “Come in, all you ·who are ·ignorant [naive; simple]!”
6 Stop your ·ignorant [naive] ways, and you will live; take the road of understanding.
13 Foolishness is like a loud woman; she ·doesn’t even know anything [is ignorant].
14 She sits at the door of her house, at the highest place in the city
16 and says to those who pass by, “Come in, all you who are ·ignorant [naive].”
17 “Stolen water is sweet; food eaten in secret tastes better.”
18 But these people don’t know that ·everyone who goes there dies [the dead are there]...
Some Thoughts
Wisdom offers life, but folly disguises death.
Wisdom’s invitation is public, pure, and promising. Folly’s is deceptive, seductive, and deadly. What feels easy or “secretly sweet” can lead to ruin. Both wisdom and folly are calling every day.
Every moment presents a choice. You’ll hear both voices in conversations, content, decisions, and desires. Recognising which voice you’re listening to is vital. To feast with wisdom is to walk in understanding.
Accepting wisdom’s invitation leads to a life of insight, protection, and peace. The path begins when we turn away from ignorance and sit at her table.
A Few Questions To Ponder
Here’s something to help you pause and reflect:
Whose voice has been louder in my heart this week—Wisdom or Folly?
Am I making decisions that lead to life or ones that feel sweet but are secretly harmful?
What practical step can I take today to pull up a seat at Wisdom’s table?
If you choose, there’s always a seat ready for you.
Conclusion
Proverbs 9 makes it plain: life or death, wisdom or folly, truth or deception. Both are calling, but only one leads to peace. This is the mercy of God—He doesn’t make us guess. He tells us where to go and what to choose. The wise respond to His voice and walk in life.
Today’s challenge: Choose your table.
Could you look at a key decision or habit in your life today? Is it wisdom’s feast—or folly’s trap? Choose the way that leads to life.
Yours faithfully,
John, a #DailyFollower.
