Dear #DailyFollowers,
Introduction
How was your week? Thank God it’s Friday!
Happy Valentine’s Day to all lovely readers and followers of the #DailyFollowers newsletter.
I missed publishing yesterday because I had a parked day planning for a road trip for today, and by all accounts, I should miss today’s because of the long road trip, but missing two days in a row creates a pattern, and I don’t want to do that.
So, here I am back with the Proverbs Series, continuing King Solomon’s thoughts about the powerful encounter that follows a diligent search for wisdom. Check out the letter from Wednesday to read about this outcome. You can also check out a catalogue of all the letters from the beginning until today in one place: here.
In today’s letter, I explore the transformative dimension of the outcome that follows a diligent search for wisdom.
Let’s dig in!
The Text
Proverbs 2:9-10, AMPC
9 Then you will understand righteousness, justice, and fair dealing [in every area and relation]; yes, you will understand every good path.
10 For skilful and godly Wisdom shall enter into your heart, and knowledge shall be pleasant to you.
Proverbs 2:9-10, EXB
9 Then you will understand what is ·honest [righteous] and ·fair [just] and what is ·the good and right thing to do [virtuous, every good course/path].
10 Wisdom will ·come into your mind [penetrate your heart], and knowledge will be ·pleasing [attractive] to you.
Some Thoughts
The operative word at the beginning of our text connects the thoughts from Wednesday's letter with those in today's text. This operative word is “Then,” which means after we have diligently sought wisdom after we had a unique encounter with the Source of Wisdom, and “then you will…“The transformative outcome is reserved for only those who follow the wisdom process.
When we follow the process, we get a renewed understanding of righteousness (as our nature [the gift we receive from our Righteous Father] and practice [the work we do every day empowered by God’s Spirit]), justice, and fair dealing come from our encounter with the Source of Wisdom. This understanding sets us on every good path, leading towards the good life.
When we follow the process, our encounter with the Source of Wisdom transforms our lives, making wisdom a core part of our existence, as a functioning heart is to any living being, and the desire for knowledge pleasing, as taking in air pleases the lungs.
One Question To Ponder
Is there any transformative evidence from my encounter with the Source of Wisdom that I can use in my daily journey of following Jesus?
It is impossible to seek wisdom diligently and genuinely, and there is no transformative evidence from the outcome of the diligent search for wisdom. How do I know?
James, the half-brother of our Lord and Saviour, said so in James 1:5-6, NKJV:
5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
When wisdom comes liberally, transformation follows closely. It changes our nature and practice and places our desires for God front and centre in everything we do.
Conclusion
An encounter with Wisdom never leaves us the same; it changes our nature, behaviour, and actions.
That’s why King Solomon admonishes us to search for wisdom diligently; it’s useful to follow his wise counsel; the things that would follow your obedience would shock you.
Yours faithfully,
John, a #DailyFollower.
