Dear #DailyFollower,
Introduction
I thought with yesterday’s post, I’d wrapped up sharing about waiting.
After four out of five letters in five days around the topic of waiting, I should be able to move on to another subject.
Alas, that’s not the case! Necessity is on me to tarry on this subject some more.
With yesterday’s letter on waiting on the LORD, I seem to have peeled a layer on the subject I feel led to continue expounding on.
I believe there’s ONE other reader (I am always THE first reader - recipient of the message the Holy Spirit seeks to impart through these newsletters) that the Holy Spirit seeks to speak to about waiting.
As Jesus often said in the gospels and Revelation, let him (or she) who has ears hear what the Spirit says to the church.
Today, I will continue focusing on waiting and expound on a thought I shared in yesterday’s newsletter about the waiting formula.
What Does Waiting IN God Mean?
To wait in God is to stay in His Word until we get a revelation from God in His Word.
It is the act of waiting patiently to draw out the revealed Word from the written Word.
IN is the key operative word in my topic for today. Understanding this word will help us understand what waiting in God means.
According to the Collins Dictionary, “in” as a preposition or adverb could connote:
position: For example, he (or she) is in the house.
movement: For example, the train is coming in now.
inclusion: For example, my story is in that book.
involvement: For example, to be in a play or a race.
time: For example, this day in 1928.
numbers: For example, one in four people profess to know about Jesus.
states: For example, I am in awe of the wonders of our God.
qualities: For example, being kind is in his nature.
These different connotations of “in“ clearly show that to be in anything is to be contained in it, placed in it, surrounded by it, or closed off in it.
So when we wait IN God, we are contained in God, placed in God, surrounded by God and closed off in God.
The big question, then, is how we wait IN God. What do we do as daily followers to be contained in God, placed in God, surrounded by God, and closed off from God?
I’ll share three thoughts on how to wait IN God.
#1: Wait IN His Word
The Word of God, Jesus, is the revelation of God, the Father, that God has graciously given to creation so we can know Him.
John shares a thought in John 1:18, EXB, to explain this truth:
18 No one has ever seen God [God the Father, who is pure spirit; 4:24]. But ·God the only Son [God the one and only; the only Son who is himself God; God the only begotten] is ·very close to [by the side of; close to the heart of; in the bosom of] the Father and he has ·shown us what God is like [made him known].
Since God has revealed Jesus, waiting in God means investing all we have in knowing the revealed God; when we do, the revealed God becomes more real to us than the clothes we wear.
There is never a better use of our waiting seasons than to invest it in waiting in God’s Word.
#2: Wait IN His Name
In teaching us how to be unselfish like Jesus - the revealed God, Paul - the apostle, shares some vital thoughts about the name of the revealed God in Philippians 2:5-11, EXB, with emphasis on verses 9-11, where he states the scope of power given to the name of Jesus:
9 So God ·raised [exalted] him to the highest place.
God ·made his name [or gave him the name] ·greater than [far above] every other name
10 so that every knee will bow to the name of Jesus—
everyone in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.
11 And ·everyone [every tongue] will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord
and bring glory to God the Father.
We wait in His name by praying in the name of Jesus, the only name given under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12, AMP).
There is no better use of our waiting seasons than investing them in prayer in the name far above every other name.
#3: Wait IN His Blood
Yes, soaked (surrounded, immersed, included, etc.) in His Blood.
Waiting in His blood is the best positioning for a daily follower in a waiting season because it is the most reliable guarantee of victory. John tells us that much when he shared his vision about the triumph of the saints in Revelation 12:11, EXB:
11 And our brothers and sisters ·defeated [conquered] him by the blood of the ·Lamb’s death [Lamb; by means of Christ’s sacrificial death] and by the ·message, they preached [word of their witness/testimony]. [And] They did not love their lives so much that they ·were afraid of [avoided] death.
There is no better place to be in our waiting season than immersed in the blood of Jesus, which assures us of redemption, restoration, and rulership (dominion).
Conclusion
Waiting in God is a discipline that all daily followers must learn because God's deep mysteries remain hidden without it, making our journey from followers to witnesses much more complex than necessary.
Waiting on the LORD starts with staying in God. Today, I’ve shared some practical ways to do this that you might consider applying in your waiting season.
As I said, the three ways to wait are active; remember, waiting on the Lord can never be passive.
Waiting ≠ Sitting Still.
Yours faithfully,
John, a #DailyFollower.
